Our Services

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and Bilingual Teaching Strategies.
  • Spanish Literacy Classes for Spanish Native Speakers
  • Basic Math for GED Preparation
  • Computer Literacy classes in Spanish and English
  • Workshops: Labor Rights, Tenant Rights, Immigration Laws, Sexual Education, Health, College and Vocational Education and many others.
  • Cultural events and programs, including painting and theater workshops.
  • Recreational activities sponsored by Cultural Unity to different tourist attractions.
  • Mexican Folkloric Dance Group: open rehearsals for the community.

Level of Service per Semester (3-4 Months In Duration)

  • 200-250 people register each semester; 110-150 on average complete an entire semester course.
  • Most students are of Latino descent: Mexican, Central American, Caribbean and South American. We have had students from Brazil, India, Korea and Russia.
  • The majority of our students are between the ages of 20-25.

Classes each week

  • 4 hours per week, 5 days per week, 3 semesters per year
  • 7-10 volunteer teachers per semester
  • 150 students per semester (ages 20-40, generally Latino, but also Korean, Indian, etc.)
  • Students typically work 1-2 jobs, have a family and then take our classes

Organization Structure

All students, teachers and volunteers are part of work committees representing each sector of the community we serve. Everyone participates in the decision making of the organization.
